Akela  reports that in January the cubs have been visited by Dave King from the Sky High team of Hampshire Scouts who summited Everest last year. The cubs sat enthralled for half an hour while he went though the experience with them and showed pictures and film of the event. The leaders enjoyed it too, particularly the pictures of frost bitten feet!

We are busy preparing for the 6-a-side football in March and have spent some time out on the forest with New Milton Cubs and Sway Cubs playing torch-lit wide games. The older Sixers meanwhile have taken part in first a group forum and then a district forum to give their opinion on the activities which are arranged for them.

Scout meetings in January have concentrated on badge work. The more unusual ones have been the Equestrian badge, gained by Katie and a Martial Arts badge gained by James. Also in January Phinny  was formally invested as a scout. The current programme includes backwoodsmanship and cooking in foil at the Cabins.

The Beavers too have been preparing for their 5-a-side football competition, enjoying a game involving some map reading and working away at badges. Badges awarded included Jason : Music, Joshua : Swimmer Stage 1, Oliver and James : Faith and James G: Faith and Swimmer Stage 1 badges.    Although the Scout Association requires its members to make the Promise which includes a "duty to God" or "to love God" it does not identify itself with any one religion. However the Purpose of the Association includes "to promote the spiritual development of young people".
