10 Jun 2008 - Jamie wins Cub of the year
The New Forest South
District Scout Awards took place on Tuesday 10th June during the
District Annual General Meeting, where the New Forest Scout District
Council welcomed their new District Commission Robin Abbot who spoke of
the future of Scouting locally, with an aim to provide more district
wide events, to introduce more people to scouting and with the
introduction of a district web site (http://www.newforestsouth.org/), and the possibility of a camp in 2009 which all New Forest South Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers and Leaders can attend.
Robin praised the leaders who provide such a
varied programme of activities locally for young people from the age
of six, as well as highlighting that now was a great time to join the
District as we move forward into the next centenary of Scouting.
Robin then presented
the District Beaver of the Year Award to Beaver Joe who is
just six years old and joined 9th Lymington Beavers in November 2007,
and on his first sleepover he showed an amazing knowledge of local
wildlife and was able to share his skills with others on a bird watch
with the RSPB.
10 year old Cub
Jamie, from 1st Lymington and Pennington Cubs was presented with
District Cub of the year for having shown true "Cub Spirit", throughout
his time in the Cub Pack, Jamie always had a smile, he turned up at
everything, and always did his best - whether it be badge work at home,
or on an outing, Jamie was a wonderful example of how a cub should be.
Jacob , a 10
year old Scout from 9th Lymington was awarded the District Scout Award
for 2008, although only invested into Scouts in February, Jacob had
been in Scouting since the age of six, and was inspired to raise money
for Water Aid after meeting the Chief Scout. He raise over £1,000 by
doing a sponsored swim, and is a wonderul example of how as a Scout,
